The Texas City Management Association is pleased to send you this month’s edition of the Management Messenger. It features recent changes in city management positions around the state, current job listings, names of new members, information about upcoming educational events, and news about our colleagues. Important Dates to Remember

2010 TCMA Awards and Scholarships Programs
The deadline for applications is January 15. For more information and an application form for each of these programs, please visit www.tcma.org. Click on the “Programs” link and select the program you wish to view.

William “King” Cole Effective Local Government Series
The deadline to receive the early bird registration is January 15.

Professional Development Committee Meeting
The committee will meet January 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Texas Municipal Center, third floor conference room, in Austin.

TCMA Board Meeting
The Board will meet January 29 at 9:00 a.m. at the Texas Municipal Center, third floor conference room, in Austin.

TCMA Statewide Offices
The deadline for 2010-2011 recommendations for president elect, vice president, and TML Board representative is February 26. A sample petition is available on the TCMA home page at www.tcma.org. Click on the link titled “2010-2011 Nominations-Election Process Timetable.”

Management Transitions

Kevin Hagan is the new city manager for the City of Merkel.

Van James is no longer the city administrator for the City of Bridgeport. Rachel Huitt is the interim city administrator for that city.

Lambert Little will no longer be the city administrator for the City of Hico beginning January 31.

Pete Maldonado is no longer the city administrator for the City of Poteet.

Carolyn Martin is no longer the city manager for the City of Mexia. Larry Brown is the new city manager for that city.

Paul Mendes is no longer the city manager for the City of Oak Ridge North.

Frankie Pittman is no longer the city manager for the City of Wolfforth. Darrell Newsom is the city manager for that city.

Oscar Ramirez is the new city manager for the City of George West.

Donald Warschak is the new city manager for the City of Columbus.

New Member Applications

TCMA Board policy requires that names of new member applicants be published each month in the Management Messenger. Any written objection during the subsequent 30-day period will be reviewed by the TCMA Membership Committee. If no objections are received during this time, the names will be submitted for Board approval at the next scheduled Board meeting. Written objections can be mailed to TCMA, Attention: Membership Committee, 1821 Rutherford Lane, Suite 400, Austin, TX 78754.

Retirement Announcement

The City of Robinson—council and staff—along with family and friends request the pleasure of your company as we celebrate the retirement of Richard “Dick” Fletcher. The come-and-go celebration will be Friday, January 15, in the City of Robinson Council Room at 111 W. Lyndale, Robinson.
