TCMA Online Ethics Course

During the TCMA dues renewal process last October, all TCMA members were sent a memo detailing the new ethics training requirement approved by the TCMA board. The TCMA Code of Ethics now requires 2 hours of ethics training each year as a condition of continued membership in TCMA. By September 30, 2008, all TCMA members must attend a TCMA or ICMA sponsored ethics session and document on the TCMA membership dues renewal notice, to be mailed October 1, that the training requirement has been met. A check box and a space will be provided to indicate where the required ethics training was taken. Random checks may be made to ensure TCMA member compliance with this new training requirement.

TCMA members may satisfy the ethics training requirement through the new TCMA online ethics course. This course was developed by the TCMA ethics committee and addresses the major points of the TCMA Code of Ethics. The web site address for the course is www.esslearning.com/tcma. When you first login, you will be required to create a login and password. Individuals taking the online course will be required to pay a $35 administrative fee to the company hosting the course, E-Strategy Solutions.

The TCMA board also decided that, as a requirement for a TCMA membership application to be considered for approval, the individual must take the TCMA online ethics course and attach the course completion certificate to their TCMA membership application. Individuals joining TCMA as a “student” or “intern” category would have to pay the $35 administrative fee to take the online ethics course, but their first year’s TCMA membership dues would be waived.
